About me

I am a research scientist developing technology in the in vitro diagnostics field for the medical device industry. I hold a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, and think a lot about the technical challenges and opportunities of bringing diagnostics to patients at the point of care.

Elemental Technology Development

Developing microfluidic and nanofluidic immunoassay technology for use in point of care medical diagnostic systems.

Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) Okinawa, Japan 2014 – 2017

Post-doctoral Scholar, Micro/Bio/Nanofluidics Unit

Project leader in an industry collaboration developing and validating microfluidic and nanofluidic immunoassay technology. Published 3 peer reviewed journal articles and submitted a patent application.

North Carolina State University Raleigh, NC 2014

Ph.D., Chemical Engineering

Conducted research in the area of functional surface coatings and polymer science, resulting in 9 peer reviewed publications and a book chapter. Received NSF EAPSI fellowship and second place oral presentation prize.

Northwestern University Evanston, IL 2007

B.S., Chemical Engineering

Studied chemical engineering (GPA 3.5) and conducted undergraduate research using computer simulations to gas isomer interactions in metal organic frameworks, resulting in a peer-reviewed publication.

Micro/Nanofluidic Devices

Technical know how in designing and fabricating devices, including surface functionalization, and using devices in a variety of applications, including immunoassays and droplet production

Functional Surface Coatings

Skilled in designing and synthesizing small molecules (e.g., silane) and polymeric materials for nanoscale, functional surface coatings, and associated characterization techniques (e.g., ellipsometry, AFM, SEM, etc.)

Data Science and Bioinformatics

Working knowledge of Python programming language applied to interesting questions in the area of data science and bioinformatics using big data frameworks.
